Ah - you found the hidden link! MaidenBlue.com was a website I started (during my spare time, beginning 1996) with a lovely girl/model Sophie - (hence the 12" MaidenBlue song track!) which allowed any female worldwide to easily create their own modelling profile online - as in those days there was no platform to do this, plus most landline 56K modem dialups, uploading anything to the internet was generally a total nightmare for many, took ages and there was NO fast digital video ability really either (except for PC based systems) so unlike today whereby anyone can create their own content by just using a mobile smartphone, back then many people still had clunky large digital cameras of which weren't easily then transferred over to computers and then up online - so I managed all of the digital editing both for images and video, using a XP Windows system with lots of software to do all that, plus a gallery cgi script which ran the MB database on the remote server. American systems were used as mostly all UK based hosts were asleep when uploads and site edits were done (around midnight to 4am!) so if I needed tech support there would be someone also awake at that time, but usually far away in another country! Photos were the easiest to process as JPG was the standard format back then for pictures and still is today, but video was mainly either AVI, MPEG or several other different formats like MOV or realplayer files - mp4 wasn't around then and so video usually had to be reformatted to enable editing etc on the XP movie maker - a very powerful device at the time. All the video samples were made using that and while digital video was still growing the early years produced amazing results. No HD of course until later on, but the basic format worked very well. MaidenBlue.com ended when the domains expanded to allow other TLDs (top level domains) and so picking .blue was an ideal transformation, but when the 'smartphone' arrived the site was no longer really needed, digital content was in the hands of all so didn't need an IT guy to assist anyone putting stuff up online, plus 'social media' sites had started by then and was an easy place to get content uploaded and viewed - but here is the archived site's homepage - some of the GIF's created (taken from MPEG video) and the video samples file that still survives. It's funny because if you watch the videosamples - there's NO mobile phone in sight anywhere... until they then start to appear. You might wonder how people managed without them, but that was a world back then, without any. In a way it's sad to look at people without any device in their hand - something maybe lost forever? Video was still quite a nightmare to get online - no real broadband available and ISDN was very expensive. I recall a media event held in London (which I went to) promising 'full motion video now on a PC' (!) - imagine the shock on seeing a 2" tiny square on the CRT monitor! Oh it's dialup (said the guy sitting at the terminal), it just cannot handle the bandwidth required for video - but someday soon the picture size will get bigger. He was right of course but if I'd been in a time machine and said hey in 2026 everyone will be streaming TV and video all down from the 'net, he'd have thought me likely crazy. Shows though how the tech managed to catch up :) Anyway, I managed to recode the archived content from the final maiden.blue website (which closed in 2024 so has no server anymore) and just pop it up here so everything should still work! MB was a great site to work on, also I do want to clarify it was NOT a 'porn' website - it simply and only provided a platform which promoted beauty of the female form - on which models could show as little or as much as they were comfortable with. In reality 'teasing' the camera (or viewer) fully clothed often created from the webstats MORE traffic + hits as viewers likely were wanting to see what would be removed, but that which wasn't also left it to their imagination if the model didn't go for a fully nude photoshoot. Indeed many hosting companies in the 1990's expressly forbid 'adult' content being stored on their servers so early full view images or video had to be pixelated out - or directly fed to subscribers by some other means, usually via an alternative adult host. Managing the site taught me so much with general web development, digital editing and of course all the wonderful girls and everyone else who was involved with the website too. I still do hold the domain for maiden.blue ..a name I created one day suitable for the website, easy to remember and for people to remember + type in and which holds many happy memories, maybe that's why I kept it retained even though it wasn't active. Possibly it could be used again - who knows!
MaidenBlue may be reborn again.... perhaps? But for marketing purposes it needs another unique girl - so if you're interested in being the new 'face' of MB like Sophie was, let me know! |
